In the news: Recently, a California-based animal rights establishment, a North Carolina State University veterinary professor, and the U.S. Equine Rescue League sued a Wake County family. The lawsuit seeks to remove six of the family’s horses and prevent the family from owning horses or pets for the next ten years. The malnourished horses were discovered in a rented pasture in Wake County with a small pile of moldy hay as their only source of food. The horses have since been seized and are being nursed back to health. The Wake District Judge presiding over the case ordered the family to pay over $8,000 for the animals’ care.
