Named after a 19th century Senator from Georgia, Cobb County arose out of a large tract of land taken from the Cherokee by the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Cobb County is the fourth most populous county in Georgia, with a population over 688,000.

Local taxpayers filed suit to prevent the Cobb County school board from giving its students and teachers laptops.
